God Had To Ask … and Still Does

Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord

Gospel Reading:

Those who hold any kind of earthly power or influence take pride in telling others what’s what and how things are going down. They don’t ask permission for anything from anyone. As pastor, sometimes I do need to make some executive decisions in spite of opinions to the contrary. Somehow that is the burden of leadership. We expect our leaders to make the hard choices, even when they face opposition.

But for God Almighty to ask permission is crazy talk. Why would God have to ask anyone permission? To tell us we have a choice to accept or reject his invitation to participate in his plan. Mary said yes. She is our model and example.

This mass was offered for the repose of +Lynne Bohman.
