Together or Right; One but not Both

Friday of the Fifth Week of Lent

As we approach Holy Week next week, the gospel tells us of escalating conflict. Ultimatums are about separating winners from losers. Friendships can work out; marriages can work out; families can work out; churches can work out when staying together is the greater good and the higher priority, more than identifying who is right and who is wrong. If the thorny issue can be approached from a different angle, it will be worth the effort only in as much as breaking up and going separate ways is off the table. And despite any thorny issue, we can still only think, speak, and act as we believe. God offers mercy even to those who reject him. No matter. His offer still and will always stand.

This mass was offered for the repose of +Maryann McAuliffe.
