Product Placement for the Gospel

Tuesday of the Seventh Week of Easter

In his last supper discourse, Jesus speaks of his desire for his disciples to have a great relationship with the Father as he himself has. He came to “reveal your name to those you gave me out of the world. … Now they know that everything you gave me is from you, because the words you gave to me I have given to them, and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from you, and they have believed that you sent me.” As Jesus has given the Father’s Word to us, so we are sent to bring this same Word, Jesus Christ, to the world.

When Paul gathered the presbyters at Ephesus to bid them farewell, he summarized his life’s work as of no importance, “if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to bear witness to the Gospel of God’s grace.” In acknowledging his mission as bearing witness to the Gospel of God’s grace, he reveals that his proclaiming Jesus Christ and the mighty works of God in his life is meant for us to recognize the same in our own lives, and proclaim the same message to others. In a way, we already do that. But perhaps we can do it more intentionally. We need to acknowledge the mighty works of God in our lives so that we can tell others, so they in turn look at God’s presence and activity in their own lives.

Jesus spoke to us God’s message of mercy and reconciliation. He entrusted this same mission to his apostles, then to each of the baptized. Our current pandemic conditions present us many obstacles in our accomplishing this work. But we weren’t very intentional about this even before. So we can be even better now. Get a free Zoom account. Gather for 40 minutes with a couple of friends. It’s the time limit for free accounts. Break open God’s word. Talk about God’s mighty works in your lives. And send them out to do the same with others. And if you decide, you can get back on for another 40 minute segment, for as many times as you want. Set it up as a recurring meeting so you don’t have to send out a new Meeting ID and passcode. Go do. And if you don’t trust the medium, choose something else. And do.

This mass was offered for the repose of +Fr. Marcin Zahuta.
